Case Study: Nullagine COLA

The Challenge
The remote town of Nullagine in Western Australia is subject to the demanding conditions of the Pilbara region. As part of a larger community development initiative, the Shire of East Pilbara needed a substantial, durable outdoor shelter for the new Ýirrunkadji Sports Courts. The primary challenge was to design a structure capable of providing essential shade and protection for community sports and activities while withstanding the harsh local environment.

The Weathersafe Solution
Weathersafe delivered a custom-designed, large outdoor shelter specifically engineered for the site. The structure, which was completed in November 2024, featured a 30m x 22m curved roof standing an impressive 7m tall. To ensure longevity and resilience in the Pilbara's demanding climate, the solution utilised heavy-duty galvanised components, including robust web truss support beams and circular hollow section posts, and was topped with durable Spandek roofing.

Outcomes & Community Impact
The Nullagine Large Shelter is a pivotal addition to the sports courts, creating a hub for recreation, connection, and well-being. The project contributes to the Shire of East Pilbara's strategic goals of uniting the community, promoting physical health, and inspiring youth development. By providing a safe and shaded environment, the shelter is a physical umbrella, protecting the community from the elements and fostering a thriving, healthy space for residents for years to come.
