Why was a sail structure chosen for the Fairbanks Reserve playground?
A sail structure suited the site well, giving council a flexible way to cover an irregular play area without the visual bulk of a framed roof. Eight columns support four Monotec 370 sails in Sheba, positioned to shade the play equipment throughout the day. Monotec 370 is a durable, UV rated fabric built for exactly this kind of high use community application, so the reserve gets shade that holds its shape and colour for years to come.
What protects the structure from vandalism and damage?
Council specifically requested anti-vandal devices on the columns to prevent climbing and discourage damage to the structure, and Weathersafe fitted these as part of the build. Every column and structural component was hot dip galvanised before being powder coated in Excel Charcoal with a satin finish, a combination chosen for its resistance to corrosion and its low maintenance demands. Together, these details give the City of Salisbury a shade structure built to stay looking sharp and functioning well for the whole Paralowie community.
